Meeting Dates - 2009-2010

September 17,2009

Program presented by Beadsmith

The end of summer is fast approaching and our first meeting for 2009-2010 is set for Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

We look forward to seeing everyone, seeing the new pieces you have beaded over the summer, the new techniques you have learned or the interesting bead store that you found. Please bring items to display at the "Show and Tell" Table.

Our program will be provided by Beadsmith. They will be discussing new products that have recently come to market. They will be doing some demos for us; one in particular is the Magical Crimp Forming Tool.

October 15, 2009

FERNANDO DASILVA, a nationally known jewelry designer and author, the only male CRYSTALLIZED™ Ambassador and a Beadalon® design team member will offer a Beadmaster™ presentation and book signing for the recently released “Bead & Wire Jewelry Exposed” at our October 15th meeting.

“Exposed” is a collection of innovative stringing projects for all levels, working with CRYSTALLIZED™ elements (like, beads, buttons and pendants) and the latest findings and stringing materials available to the DIY market. Most of the projects on “Exposed” bring to the spotlight usually hidden elements like stringing wire, tubing, connectors, clasps and chain.

The piece he will feature is “Zephyr”, a lariat style with brilliant CRYSTALLIZED™ dangling beads, a fashionable addition to your holiday wardrobe. The book will be available for sale at a discount and Fernando would love to personalize it for any member purchasing one.

The presentation will begin directly after the monthly meeting business.

Shop and Swap!
Come to shop from our business vendors for what you need to finish those holiday gifts or shop for your own holiday gift. Also, individual members may bring a few items or beads to swap or sell to other individual members. Have you learned a new design and made several items and realized that you just don’t need that many? Well here is your chance to sell it or swap for someone else’s artwork.

-- As this is a special event where guests will have the opportunity to shop along with Bead Society Members at the business member/vendor tables, the guest fee will be $10.00, $5.00 of which may be applied toward Bead Society Membership.

-- An individual (who has chosen not to get a table as a vendor but) who is planning to swap and/or sell may only bring a few items that would fit on the table in front of them. To be fair to everyone, this would be the usual amount of space they would have at a regular meeting.

Kabela Design will be presenting a bead challenge. They will be passing out to each attendee a Kabela packet which will include a focal point, some chain, and findings. Members need to bring their own tools and any beads, fibers, wire, stones, and seed beads, pearls, etc. or anything else you would like to incorporate to create a finished piece. You will be given 45 minutes to create your project during the meeting. All completed pieces will then be judged and prizes will be awarded for two categories:
- Basic beaded piece
- Most unique piece
The winners will receive free Kabela products that night.

Kabela Design will also be selling their merchandise at the meeting and will be offering the membership a 20% onetime discount at the meeting that night.

The Kabela Design line is made in the United States and covers filigree, art deco, and art nouveau stampings. Kabela offers a vintage feel with a contemporary twist on components and findings.

Please check the website for any updates that might occur due to inclement weather.
